VIRTUAL INTRODUCTORY COURSE
Affirmative Approach for Mental Health Students and Professionals

9 weeks

22 hrs. of instruction | 10 hrs. of practice

Start: April 18

PRESENTATION

The course will provide introductory theoretical concepts related to sexual diversity and affirmative therapy. The goal is to raise awareness among mental health professionals and train them in providing psychological care to people in the LGTBIQ+ community, as well as to offer resources for approaching care from an affirmative perspective that demystifies prejudice and prioritizes discrimination-free spaces.

The affirmative approach seeks informed, inclusive practice for all LGTBIQ+ people, as well as for those who are still questioning and exploring their sexual orientation and gender identity, providing support in affirming one's own identity, free of discriminatory questioning or judgment.

Finally, it's important to note that affirmative therapy takes into account the factors needed for an approach that addresses the specific needs of the LGTBIQ+ population that may arise in session. We believe it is important to keep raising visibility and providing tools that help build a more inclusive society, and above all, to reduce the violence the LGTBIQ+ community has experienced (or continues to experience) from certain therapeutic approaches.
