The directory currently includes professionals from 9 regions of Peru : Arequipa, Callao, Cusco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lima, San Martín and Tumbes, and we hope to soon be able to reach the entire country. Más Igualdad does not set rates or schedules, nor does it process payments or decide on sliding-scale fees; rather, it provides information to people looking for professionals so that a quality service can be provided, above all, without discrimination. If any incident occurs during a session that requires our attention, you can let us know through the Incident Report. Ver preguntas frecuentes Frequently asked questions These are some of the questions we're frequently asked about our affirmative health directory. If you have any further questions, you can write to us at comunica@masigualdad.pe and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. How can I request a reduced rate? You can request a reduced rate (25% off the regular rate) with any of the mental health professionals in the directory. To do so, you'll first need to message our Emotional First-Aid Kit so they can do an initial assessment and refer you to the professional of your choice*.*The number of people each professional can see at the reduced rate is determined by each professional individually. Likewise, payment, scheduling and any coordination related to sessions are handled directly with each professional — Más Igualdad has no involvement in that. What should I do if I'm mistreated by one of the professionals? All of our professionals have gone through a screening process to ensure they provide affirmative, discrimination-free care. If you experience poor practice or any form of discrimination, fill out this form so we can investigate and remove the person from our directory. Which regions of Peru have professionals in the directory? The directory currently includes professionals from 9 regions of Peru: Arequipa, Callao, Cusco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lima, San Martín and Tumbes, and we hope to soon reach the entire country. Most professionals also offer virtual care, so you'll be able to easily see a professional if you choose that format. What is a psychotherapeutic approach? If you'd like to know the different therapeutic approaches offered by professionals in our directory, go to the "What type of therapy is right for me?" section I'm a mental health professional — how can I join the directory? Applications are currently closed. If you are a mental health professional who would like to join the directory, you can follow us on social media so you'll know when a new call for applications opens. How did this idea come about? As LGBTIQ+ people, we face difficulties accessing quality mental health services where we aren't discriminated against or subjected to attempts to change our sexual orientation or gender identity, which is why the National Affirmative Mental Health Directory was created, where you can find mental health professionals trained to provide you with care. What are conversion practices or therapies? At Más Igualdad we are committed to ensuring that any effort to change sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (or SOGIECE, better known as conversion therapy) is banned and penalized. These practices are harmful, do not work, and can cause harm to mental health and long-term life plans. Conversion practices are a form of torture (recognized by the UN) that must be banned in Peru. What type of therapy is right for me? The type of therapy can't be determined in a one-size-fits-all way, since every person is unique and has different needs — for example, what works for you won't necessarily work for someone else. However, to help you decide, you can read the descriptions we at Más Igualdad have prepared for you, and choose based on what you think or sense you need right now. Professionals will support you through the process without discrimination. Gestalt Therapy model focused on working from each person's own perception. It seeks to help the individual strengthen their resources and achieve holistic wellbeing through awareness of how they got to their current situation. It supports taking responsibility for one's emotions, thoughts and actions in a constant here-and-now, restoring the ability to choose which path to take in facing life. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Therapy model focused on identifying and changing a person's thought patterns and developing new behavioral skills to help them function better in different situations. It is present-focused and oriented toward concrete goals. Systemic / Family A therapy model that understands human problems from a contextual framework and seeks to understand and change relational dynamics, which can be applied to couples, work teams, educational settings, families and individuals. Psychoanalysis / Psychodynamics Therapy model aimed at understanding and resolving emotional and relational problems by bringing the unconscious mind into consciousness, seeking to reduce symptoms and relieve distress. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) / Contextual Therapies Therapy model focused on developing acceptance of a person's internal experience (emotions and thoughts), training their attention to be directed consciously and voluntarily to the present moment, and fostering actions oriented toward their personal values. Dialectical Behavior Therapy A therapy model developed for working with people experiencing overwhelming emotions (e.g., Borderline Personality Disorder). It focuses on developing specific skills such as distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. Humanistic - Logotherapy Humanistic psychology views the human being as a whole. It works with aspects such as emotions, the body, feelings, behavior, thoughts, among others, seeking the integration and understanding of mind, body and spirituality/value system within the current context. Logotherapy is a form of psychotherapy centered on the concept of the will to meaning as the primary human motivation, viewing each person as a unique and unrepeatable being. It rests on three basic principles: "the will to meaning," "the meaning of life," and "the freedom of the will." Guidance and Counseling Psychological counseling is a process in which the psychologist and you work together to understand the issues you're facing at this point in your life. You'll also identify and clarify the personal resources you have to approach, in a different way, whatever is interfering with your well-being. Counseling differs from psychotherapy in that it's a brief space focused on a specific issue. We believe in a country where diverse families are socially and legally recognized, and where all LGTBIQ+ people feel free to be, to love and to be part of a family on equal terms. Más Igualdad Perú is a nonprofit organization that promotes equal rights and non-discrimination through collaborative work, media outreach, and the promotion of research and reflection on topics related to diversity. We aspire for everyone in Peru to be able to fully exercise their citizenship, live a life free of discrimination and violence, and, together with their families, exercise their citizenship democratically. Learn more about us What makes us different? AFFIRMATIVE APPROACH We value and celebrate diversity in all its forms, including sex characteristics, gender identities and diverse ways of relating to others. Our work is grounded in a perspective that recognizes these differences as a fundamental contribution to society. We also actively challenge any belief system, norm or cultural practice that generates prejudice, stigmatization or exclusion toward historically marginalized groups, seeking to transform the structures and discourses that perpetuate inequality. MENTAL HEALTH APPROACH We view wellbeing as a comprehensive state that includes not only the absence of disorders, but also the ability to cope with daily stresses and demands and to actively participate in the community. We work to destigmatize mental health, especially among LGBTIQ+ people living with diagnoses or neurodivergent experiences. We promote inclusive spaces and psychological support that foster resilience and quality of life for these people. LGBTIQ+ EMPLOYABILITY We recognize the historical and structural debt owed to LGBTIQ+ populations, who face high rates of labor and economic exclusion. That is why we implement inclusive hiring policies, prioritizing the inclusion of LGBTIQ+ people, with special emphasis on particularly vulnerable groups such as trans, non-binary and bisexual people. This approach not only contributes to labor justice, but strengthens our organization with diverse perspectives and life experiences. INTERSECTIONAL APPROACH We understand that people do not experience discrimination in isolation — rather, multiple factors, such as gender, race, sexual orientation, social class and disability, among others, intersect and produce complex, specific forms of oppression. Recognizing these intersections is key to designing strategies that address inequality comprehensively and effectively, promoting a social justice that takes into account every dimension of identity and human experience.
